About the Prosecutor

Kent T. Eastwood has served as the Boone County Prosecutor since July 2018. He began his tenure with the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office in 2005 as a Deputy Prosecutor assigned to major felony narcotics prosecution. On January 1, 2010, Eastwood was appointed Chief Deputy. He was elected Boone County Prosecutor in July 2018 to fulfill the remainder of the term vacated by former Prosecutor Todd Meyer, who resigned to pursue an opportunity outside Boone County. Eastwood went on to win election to a full term later that year and was re‑elected by Boone County voters in 2022.

Eastwood’s legal career began in 1999 with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. There, he served as a Deputy Prosecutor and a member of the Major Felony Narcotics Unit. He was appointed Special Prosecutor in charge of methamphetamine prosecution and worked as a liaison to several law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police – Drug Enforcement Section and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department–DEA Drug Task Force. In these capacities, Eastwood provided legal guidance and investigative support to state, federal, and local agencies engaged in complex narcotics investigations.

Throughout his career in Boone County, Eastwood has handled nearly every category of criminal offenses from routine traffic matters to high‑profile, capital‑level prosecutions. His approach centers on close collaboration with law enforcement, ensuring that the criminal justice system remains responsive to evolving threats and the needs of the community.

In addition to his courtroom responsibilities, Eastwood is a respected instructor and contributor to law enforcement and community education efforts. He has taught for the Boone County Sheriff Reserve Academy, the Boone County Sheriff Citizens Academy, the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department Citizens Academy, and the Zionsville Police Department Citizens Academy. He also serves as a frequent instructor for the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, providing training to prosecutors around the State. Eastwood has delivered specialized instruction to every law enforcement agency in Boone County, covering a wide range of investigative and legal topics. His professional development includes graduating from the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center’s Top Gun undercover narcotics investigation program and the National District Attorneys Association’s Prosecuting Drug Cases course.

Beyond his prosecutorial work, Eastwood is deeply involved in community service. He has held leadership roles with the Boone County Bar Association, the Lebanon Rotary Club, and the Lebanon Presbyterian Church Preschool Board. A graduate of the Boone County Community Foundation Leadership Program, he also serves on the Board of Directors for Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center and the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School Alumni Association.

An Indianapolis native, Eastwood graduated from Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University, where he was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta and Pi Sigma Alpha academic honor societies. In 1993, he studied at American University and interned with the New Zealand Embassy in Washington, D.C., preparing briefings on diplomatic policy issues affecting U.S.–New Zealand relations. He earned his Juris Doctor from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1998.
