NOTICE: For information on Boone County’s Emergency Management Response to COVID-19

The overall mission of the Boone County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is to ensure the safety of the people and property of Boone County. We strive to accomplish this goal through the following actions:

Be Prepared

Taking simple steps to prepare can potentially save you and your family.  It is important to:

    1. Identify which emergencies are most likely to happen where you live – Boone County is vulnerable to a variety of emergencies.  Heavy rain, flooding,
thunderstorms, straight line winds, tornadoes and winter storms are all examples of severe weather conditions that may occur.
    2. Make a Plan – Plan for emergencies at home, school, and work.  Make sure everyone knows the plan
    3. Build a Kit – Make sure you have an emergency kit with enough supplies for three days
    4. Stay Informed – Have multiple ways to get information before, during and after emergencies.

Travel Advisory Map

The travel status information for Boone County is provided by the emergency management agency.  The county information is sent to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to be changed on the State Travel Advisory Map.  The map will display the travel status by changing the color of the county.  Color and definitions can be found on this chart.

  Warning

The highest level of local travel advisory, means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a “warning” local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:

A. Refrain from all travel

B. Comply with necessary emergency measures

C. Cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans

D. Obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers

  Watch

Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

  Advisory

The lowest level of local travel advisory, means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
