Organization:

The Coroners Office is led by Coroner Justin Sparks & Chief Deputy Shane Daugherty. Together they lead a team of investigators that serve Boone County.

Our investigative team consists of certified medical & legal death investigators with a wide range of professional backgrounds. Our team has medical professionals, law enforcement officers, crime scene investigators, & specialty investigators on staff.

Depending on the circumstances, our on-scene team may expand to bring these specialist into the investigation.  Our team is available 24/7 , 365 days a year to serve our community.

Our new facility, formally opened in 2025, is a state-of-the-art forensic facility. This facility allows for all aspects of our organizational services to be conducted in one location in a safe and dignified manner for those work here & those we serve.
