Commissioner Santelli to Attend 2022 Mental Health Summit
INDIANAPOLIS (October 17, 2022) — Boone County Commissioner Tom Santelli will attend an invite-only Mental Health Summit hosted by the State of Indiana on Friday, October 21.
As part of the Commissioners’ long-standing commitment to mental health initiatives in the community, Commissioner Santelli’s attendance will provide a better understanding of the State’s future plans regarding mental health.
The overall goal of the summit is to bring awareness and create an effective infrastructure for combating mental health woes in each individual community.
For years, the Commissioners have been proactive in championing mental health resources in the county. In early June, the Commissioners voted to approve the use of ARPA funds to replace lost revenue by the Boone County Child Advocacy Center (Sylvia’s House) during the pandemic. The organization works to provide a safe, comfortable, and child-focused environment for juvenile victims to share their story of physical or sexual abuse.
The Commissioners are engaging in the expanded Justice Center project, which will provide space for additional mental health services while focusing on keeping certain offenders suffering crises out of the jail system.
Commissioner Santelli says he is looking forward to learning what additional mental health services could possibly benefit Boone County residents.
“Mental health is a critical component of ensuring our community is safe and healthy,” said Commissioner Santelli. “Through our extensive work with community partners such as Community Corrections and Probation, JDAI, Family Recovery and Drug Court. We are tackling mental health, drug addition, domestic violence, suicide and crisis intervention, and much more.”
The full agenda for the summit can be found here.
