Commissioners Commend Human Resources Director for Saving County Millions
BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (September 29, 2022) — The Boone County Commissioners provided the following statement on Thursday.
“We are grateful to Boone County Human Resources Director Megan Smith for her work in saving the county more than $2 million in employee health insurance costs over a two-year period.
At our September 19 meeting, we locked in the quoted price by the county’s insurance service APEX. Smith worked extensively with the company to drive down the county’s employee health and prescription service costs.
“Megan has worked tirelessly to ensure all of our county employees receive quality health coverage,” said Boone County Commissioner Tom Santelli, who serves for the Commissioners on the county’s insurance committee.
Boone County’s healthcare costs were projected to increase by more than 12 percent next year. However, since Smith worked on negotiations with the insurance company, costs for insurance are projected to decrease by more than 10 percent.
The Commissioners are thankful for Smith’s work that will ultimately save our taxpayers money while supporting our mission of a healthy and thriving Boone County community.”
