Boone County To Hire Full-Time Attorney

LEBANON, IN Wednesday, April 9, 2025 – Following a vote by the Boone County Council on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Beth Copeland will be hired as full-time county attorney.

Copeland, who was formerly Chief Litigation Counsel for the City of Indianapolis, Corporation Counsel for the City of Kokomo and served many local government clients as an attorney with Taft law firm, was hired as a contract employee in February by the County Commissioners. After considering the proposal, the County Council voted unanimously Tuesday to transfer existing funds in order to hire Copeland as a full-time Boone County employee. Commissioners will finalize the change at their next meeting on April 14.

“This is a great move for Boone County,” County Commission President Scott Pell said about Copeland’s hiring. “By bringing our legal counsel in-house, it will not only save the taxpayers money but this also streamlines operations by having legal advice immediately available. This is truly a win-win situation and I appreciate the County Council working with us to see the value of making Beth Copeland a Boone County employee.”

Following the vote, County Council President Jennifer Hostetter said, “The Council’s approval of the in-house attorney position reflects the Council and Commissioners’ ability to find common ground and work together. It’s a step toward more productive collaboration and improved communication, which I am hopeful will continue as we move forward.”

Copeland can be reached through the County Commissioners Office at (765) 483-4492.
