Commissioners Provide Update on Planned Unit Development

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (October 12, 2022) — The Boone County Commissioners issued the following statement on Wednesday afternoon.

“The County Commissioners first learned in February that the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) is developing the LEAP (Limitless Exploration/Advanced Pace) District on mostly farm and rural land north and northwest of Lebanon.

We have shared information as it has become available since learning about the proposed development and have taken proactive steps to ensure the quality of life in Boone County remains top notch. We have been cognizant of the potential impacts to the rural and agricultural character of our community and are sensitive to the affected residents.

In July, we engaged Rundell Ernstberger Associates to assist with the creation of a Planned Unit Development (PUD) district to responsibly plan for future development.

In the months since, we have held stakeholder meetings to understand possible opportunities and concerns the community may have about the proposed development area.

We want to thank the Boone County Preservation Group (BCPG) for their input on this proposed development. The Commissioners also want to extend our appreciation to all other entities including the City of Lebanon for their participation in the process.

We believe responsible growth can be only achieved through conscientious and deliberate planning.”
