Statement from Boone County Commissioners

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (August 26, 2022) — The Boone County Commissioners issued the following statement following a special meeting of the County Council on Thursday.

“Over the past several months, the Boone County Commissioners have been actively working with multiple stakeholders regarding a development planned by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) northwest of Lebanon. We have been proactive in recent weeks, engaging land use planner Rundell Ernstberger Associates (REA) to help assist Boone County in creating a planned unit development (PUD) ordinance.

On Thursday, the Commissioners were proud to see the County Council move forward with the funding for REA’s critical work. We believe the Council responded appropriately to the requests of the taxpayers. The Commissioners believe responsible growth can be only achieved through conscientious and deliberate planning.

The Commissioners and REA will be hosting meetings next week which will include individual members of the community, school districts, public safety officials and municipalities. As we plan for this project, we look forward to listening to all stakeholders and landowners in the community in the coming days.”

This planning effort is part of the Commissioners cooperation with the IEDC on the LEAP project (Limitless Exploration/Advanced Pace).
