Boone County Leaders Applaud Plans for U.S. Customs Office at Indianapolis Executive Airport
LEBANON, Ind. – Members of the Boone County Commissioners and Boone County Council attended the Zionsville State of the Town address on October 29 at Indianapolis Executive Airport, where Zionsville Mayor John Stehr announced plans for the addition of a U.S. Customs office at the facility.
The new customs office will allow aircraft arriving from international destinations—such as Canada and the Caribbean—to land directly at Indianapolis Executive Airport, eliminating the need to first stop at Indianapolis International Airport for customs clearance.
“This is going to be great for our region,” said Boone County Council President Jennifer Hostetter. “It will attract new tourism and business opportunities to our community and help put Zionsville and Boone County on the map. Indianapolis Executive is already the fifth-busiest non-towered airport in the United States, and this addition will only enhance its significance.”
Boone County Commission President Scott Pell echoed those sentiments, calling the development a major step forward for the region. “This will put Boone County on the world stage,” Pell said. “Indy Executive airport already drives business—now it’s going global.”
Boone County Council Member Aaron Williams, who also serves as the county’s representative on the Hamilton County Airport Authority, highlighted the economic impact the new customs office will bring. “Everyone in Boone County is going to benefit,” Williams said. “From increased tax revenue through fueling and aircraft operations to the opportunities for new and existing businesses, this facility will help drive an economic boom for Boone County unlike anything we’ve seen before.”
Background
Indianapolis Executive Airport is located in Boone County and within the town limits of Zionsville. The facility is owned by Hamilton County and operated by the Hamilton County Airport Authority. Boone County maintains one advisory position on the Authority board.
