Chief Deputy Prosecutor



Kent was appointed Chief Deputy for the State of Indiana’s 20thJudicial Circuit by Boone County Prosecutor Todd Meyer on January 1, 2011

Prior to his appointment, Kent served as a Deputy Prosecutor for the office since February of 2005. Kent has been in charge of all narcotics related prosecutions in addition to other major felony matters for BooneCounty. Before joining the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office, Kent worked as a Deputy Prosecutor in MarionCounty. Kent began his service in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office as an intern and worked his way up to the position of Deputy Prosecutor – Major Felony Narcotics Unit – and he was also named Special Prosecutor in charge of Methamphetamine Prosecution. While serving in the Narcotics Unit, Kent was the Prosecutor’s Office liaison with the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section, IMPD/DEA Drug Task Force, and other local law enforcement units where he advised and assisted those agencies in investigation and related legal matters      


As a Deputy Prosecutor for over 12 years, Kent has involved with and successfully prosecuted every type of criminal activity ranging from public intoxication to Murder. In addition to his trial court duties, Kent has been an instructor at the BooneCountySheriffReserveAcademy and the BooneCountySheriffCitizensAcademy. Kent also successfully graduated from the Northeast Counter drug TrainingCenter “Top Gun” Undercover Drug Law Enforcement Training at Grissom Air Force Base and the National District Attorney’s Association Prosecuting Drug Cases

Outside of the office, Kent has been elected to serve as a Boone County Republican Precinct Committeeman for Center Township 14 and as delegate to the Indiana State Republican Convention. Kent is member of the Boone County Bar Association, and he is its past president. Kent is a graduate of both Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory and Santa ClaraUniversity, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. While at Santa Clara, Kent was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta and Pi Sigma Alpha, History and Political Science Honor Societies. In 1993, Kent studied in WashingtonDC through American University and he served as an intern for the New Zealand Embassy, where he provided daily briefings on legislative and executive branch matters impacting US – New Zealand relations. After graduating from Santa Clara, Kent returned home and attended Indiana University’s School of Law – Indianapolis where he obtained his Juris Doctorate. While in law school, Kent was elected president of the Republican Club and the Federalist Society. Additionally, Kent has volunteered and worked on many local and statewide Republican campaigns  Kent and his wife Brandi live in BooneCounty with their two sons, Colton and Rowan. Kent and Brandi are both members of St. Luke United Methodist Church. In addition to his family and responsibilities of his position, Kent is an avid tennis player and golfer.
