The Boone County Area Plan Commission (APC) is a seven-member appointed and ex-officio commission.  The jurisdiction of this board includes all unincorporated areas of Boone County, as well as the Towns of Whitestown and Advance.  Powers delegated to the APC include: prepare and amend the Comprehensive Plan, the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, the Subdivision Control Ordinance, and the Official Zoning Maps. The APC also has the authority to approve all plats or replats involving land covered by the Subdivision Control Ordinance. APC Staff assist the APC in these duties.

The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) consist of five appointed members and is charged with the power to grant variances or special exceptions from the Development Standards outlined in the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance. The Board may also classify uses not listed in the Zoning Ordinance. APC Staff also assist the BZA in its duties.

Other duties of the APC Staff:

  • Administer land use and zoning regulations for the County.
  • Issue building permits for residential, commercial and industrial structures.
  • Issue addresses for new homes and businesses.
  • Maintain Census data on population and housing for the county and surrounding areas.
